A Day on the Farm
It's been a while since I have posted anything as it has been a crazy busy year! I thought I would share a little bit of fun info about myself and what inspires me when making my jackets. In my bio, it has the information that I am located in beautiful NE Kansas in the middle of a farming area. My husband's main business is farming and I get to help move farm equipment from field to field during planting, haying and harvest seasons. Today was the last day we pulled last tractor out of a hay field that is about 20 miles away and it took almost two hours from the time we left to get close to home to another field that they will start bringing the bales home from. I love getting to do this as I get to see lots of beautiful farmsteads and countryside as the fields we hay are scattered around the area and we have logged quite a few miles. When moving this tractor that they use to load the hay on the semi, we take back roads which are very dusty and the temperature at the time was 90 degrees with heat index of 108 this morning. Good thing my hubby is tough!
I am so inspired by the beauty of our area and enjoy seeing huge dragonflies, butterflies and lots of different birds, especially swallows as I travel around to all the different farms. This year I am starting a collection of jackets that are inspired by flowers, wild grasses, butterflies, dragonflies, humming birds, swallows and a few horses on the different jackets. If you go to the Meredith Lockhart Collections Facebook page, you will see sneak peeks of what I am making. I will be using a number of different suede colors and each wearable art jacket will have different hand painted designs on them. I am looking forward to a photo shoot that will take place in Arizona in late September and will be adding those photos to our website and Facebook Page and will let everyone know where to find our pieces as we now have two retailers.
